CA AB506 – Overall California YPP Clearance StatusTo keep our youth participants safe and meet California state law, adults have two new registration steps to complete--in addition to your standard FIRST background check and Youth Protection training.

You may have already seen the blog about AB 506, a California law that requires youth-serving organizations to take extra safety steps for volunteers who work closely with minors. Under AB 506, a Regular Volunteer is defined as someone over 18 years old who volunteers with a youth-serving organization: 16-hours or more per month, or  32-hours or more per year. This includes two items:

* Complete a LiveScan (see the links in the Blog below)
* Complete California specific Mandatory Reporter Training

These steps are above and beyond the every 3 year YPP background check and YPP training done with FIRST.

Please read the blog here: https://community.firstinspires.org/pennsylvania-and-california-clearances-staying-compliant-with-local-volunteer-requirements

And instead of repeating a well produced website, please visit the NorCal region's website for full details on this new requirement focused on California with FAQs: https://www.playingatlearning.org/ca-ab506/

San Diego FTC Highly recommends that each team complete these requirements for their team mentors as required, but have additional team volunteers also complete these requirements in order to serve as the team's volunteers at future events.
