We have now separated those blog announcements of programs we hear about into their own categories:
Let us know if you find this useful or have any suggestions. For those who are still interested in the MOONBOTS competition, the registration deadline has been extended to Wednesday March 15 so you have one more week! See the previous blog post about it:
http://www.sdftc.org/blog/moonbots-challenge-another-robotics-competition And for any team that would like to participate in the SouthWest Robotics in Science Education (SWRiSE) FTC scrimmage held during the San Diego County Fair (and be eligible to apply for the Don Diego Scholarship Program in the future), get on the SWRiSE pre-registration list: We have a great opportunity for Pre-Registration for teams that would like to participate in Summer of Robotics at the San Diego County Fair. We are offering the chance for your teams to pre-register on our website, SWRiSE.org, and you will get the first opportunity to sign your team up to participate at the Del Mar Fair. Although this will not guarantee a spot at the fair, just for pre-registering, you will receive all communications and dates prior to us opening them to the public. Pre-registration is free, you not be asked for your team fee until we open registration at a later date on the San Diego County Fair website. **All dates are subject to changes** FIRST Robotics Challenge -- June 3rd FIRST Tech Challenge -- June 10th FIRST LEGO League, SUMO, and Line Follow -- June 11th Botball Challenge -- June 24th This is a great early opportunity for your teams and we look forward to seeing everyone pre-register! 36 San Diego League teams will advance from this coming weekend to the San Diego Regional Championship on Saturday Feb 25, and then just 4 teams will progress to the West Super-Regional Championship March 10-12 in Tacoma, WA. There is only two weeks between the San Diego Regional and the West S-R, so for anyone interested in the West S-R event, you can browse the information on their FTCWest.org website which is now back up after a brief update period this week. There is travel information and a link for nearby hotels which have discounts for people attending the West S-R (their reservation period deadline is Feb 12-13 so San Diego League teams won't know who is advancing yet, however if you're volunteering there or attending regardless, you could take advantage of the discount).
To All League Teams and Our Many Dear Friends,
Marion and I have had the pleasure of serving as Affiliate Partners for San Diego FTC for 10 seasons. But the time has come for us to pass the baton. We will be retiring from our role as Affiliate Partners at the end of this season. Over the last 10 years, the San Diego FTC Region has seen strong growth – from fewer than 20 teams and a single tournament in 2007 to over 60 teams and 17 meets/tournaments/championships today. Along the way, thousands of students have had the chance to get inspired about science and technology. It has been a pleasure and an honor to be part of this. It is important to bring in new leadership with the energy and vision to continue expanding FIRST Tech Challenge in San Diego to reach more teams, while keeping it fun and relevant. We have identified a successor who is well-qualified to do exactly that, and we will announce the incoming Affiliate Partner by the end of this season. Although retiring as Affiliate Partners, we will stay on in a more limited role coordinating the Regional Championship tournaments in 2018 and 2019. We would like to say “thank you” to the coaches, mentors, and parents who have invested so much of their time and energy in making FTC San Diego successful. We are grateful to you for your partnership, ideas, support, and hard work over the years. Making FTC San Diego thrive is truly the work of many hands, and we have been blessed to be partners with you. With gratitude, John and Marion Brooks FIRST Tech Challenge Affiliate Partners, San Diego P.S. As part of the transition, effective immediately FTC San Diego will begin using a new email address for all communications: sandiegoftc@gmail.com. Please make a note of this new address and try to use it instead of ftcsandiego@att.net. Of course, we will monitor both accounts for the time being. Dear San Diego FTC Coaches and Senior Students:
Applications are now open for the 2017 San Diego FTC Achievement Scholarship. There will be two $2,000 scholarships awarded: one to a senior boy and one to a senior girl. If finances permit, runner-up scholarships may be awarded as well. Deadline: February 17, 2017 at 11:59 pm Winners Announced: February 25, 2017 (at the San Diego Regional Championship) Team coaches have received the application forms by email. To apply, just return the application, the coach recommendation form, and the (optional but strongly recommended) counselor recommendation form so that they are received by February 17, 2017. Questions? Just ask. John Brooks FTC Affiliate Partner, San Diego From John & Marion Brooks
FIRST Tech Challenge Affiliate Partners, San Diego Dean’s List Candidates – Plan ahead. Dean’s List submissions need to be complete by January 15, 2017. We still need the following volunteers: 3 for Gauss, 2 for Descartes, 3 for Euclid and 0 for Turing (YAY! Turing). No experience is required!
