Looking for more robotics fun? The 2017 MOONBOTS Challenge has just opened; it's the Google Lunar XPRIZE Challenge for kids! Five privately-funded teams from around the world are still in the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition to launch a robot to the moon and achieve a set of objectives by the end of 2017.
In the MOONBOTS Challenge, kids from 8-17 years old are invited to design, build, and program a parallel challenge. Phase 1 starts now with a video submission to answer, "What would you leave behind on the Moon?" On March 31, twelve finalist teams will be chosen from around the world for Phase 2 - these finalists will receive a robot kit and other materials to complete their robot and challenge design. In July, the 12 teams will have live online sessions with the MOONBOTS judges, and one team will win the Grand Prize of a trip to meet the winning Google Lunar XPRIZE team! Past and current team members in the San Diego FTC League have been finalists and prize winners in MOONBOTS: 2012 MOONBOTS 2nd runner-up: Apollo 19 2010 MOONBOTS 2nd place: Shadowed Craters
