San Diego Region FTC Teams, Our championship tournaments are just around the corner. Like last year, Judged Awards will be given out at our league championships and our regional championship (Promote and Compass only at the Regional). Award descriptions are here. All judging will be in the morning, before matches start. Teams will have no more than 15 minutes with a panel of 2-3 judges. They should bring their robot with them. Teams are encouraged to be ready with a presentation that tells their story and highlights their accomplishments in each judged area, while leaving time for judges to ask questions. Judges will be prepared to facilitate the entire session for teams that have no presentation prepared. Engineering Notebooks will be collected at check-in and will be in the room with the judges when the teams arrive. They will be returned at the end of the day. Judges will continue to interact with teams throughout the matches. Due to the varied nature of the tournament room sizes, mentors will not be allowed into the judging room apart from exceptional circumstances. Our Judges will be using the rubric piloted last year (attached). The goal is to provide additional guidance to the teams and ensure a consistent judging process. While the intention is to bring additional rigor to the judged awards, teams should also remember that FTC judged awards are subjective in nature and, per FTC rules, "scored" rubrics and all judging notes cannot be returned to teams. Teams are also encouraged to use the FTC Self-Reflection Guide and the new FTC Engineering Notebook Self-Reflection Worksheet. These are useful tools for practice, and a useful exercise after the tournament. Thank you and good luck in the championships this year! Devin Breise – San Diego region FTC Judging coordinator
